"A magnificent, opulent, tremendous, stupendous, gargantuan bedazzlement, a sensual ravishment. It will be: Spectacular Spectacular. No words in the vernacular can describe this great event. You'll be dumb with wonderment!"
Harry Zeedler of the Moulin Rouge
The Curious Conspiracy, a recently formed profit-share cooperative of Rogue Valley producers, performers and technical-support staff, is delighted to announce a night of music, theater, dance and drink called “Kattywampus Circus Spectacular!” on Saturday, May 18.
The event will be held at the Historic Ashland Armory and the doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Arrive early dressed in your most flamboyant circus, burlesque or elegant attire! Costumes are strongly encouraged! (Customized costumes available by Sharp Couture: link below).
Picture the Historic Ashland Armory with a line wrapped around it full of eager attendees dressed in outrageous, circus and burlesque-themed costumes. The doors open, and the people flow into a fantastical world that delights the senses and excites the imagination. Props, art installations and visual effects accentuate the circus theme. Fascinating performers and characters of all sorts grace the stage and wander the theater throughout the night.
"Guests will experience Aerialist, Vaudevillians, Stilt Walkers, Sword Dancers, Magicians, Comedians, Hula Hoopers, Contortionists, Belly Dancers, Breakdancers, Pole Dancers, Kung Fu Masters, Snake Charmers, Rockers, Burlesque Dancers, Go Go Dancers, Jugglers, Queens, Kings, Jacks of all Trades...we want attendees to feel that anything is possible. Our mission is to dazzle and surprise the audience, to make them part of the show: total sensual immersion that is guaranteed to satisfy.” Jason Gallagher.
The evening kicks off with a dance party where the entire cast is on the floor dancing and mingling with the audience while serenaded by Dirty Electro Swing, a luscious mashup of old-time swing and lounge tunes mixed with uptempo house beats delivered by performing artist Avena Shakti Bliss. Next the Master Of Ceremonies calls the audience to attention and introduces an outrageous line-up of circus, burlesque, and vaudeville performances that build to a crescendo setting the stage for Vagabond Opera, a Portland based, six-piece Bohemian Cabaret ensemble. At set break our bombastic host leads audience participation games with fantastic prizes, followed by an awe-inspiring aerial routine by Le Cirque's Surrelia, as seen in the Moulin Rouge, before Vagabond’s second set. Then the entire cast and crew take to the stage for the grand finale performance before they once again merge with the audience for a dance party that goes until midnight!
